Men's, women's programs recognized as Scholar All-American Teams
RALEIGH—After a successful year in the classroom and in competition, five members of the NC State men's swimming and diving team and four members of the women's program were named Individual Scholar All-Americans, as announced by the College Swimming Coaches Association of America (CSCAA) Wednesday.
An additional seven from the men's squad and three from the women's team also received honorable mention selections, giving the Wolfpack a combined total of 19 student-athletes on this year's list.
Both the men's and women's squads were simultaneously recognized as Scholar All-America Teams, as the men's program recorded a 3.15 GPA during the spring semester and the women's program earned a 3.40 GPA.
The CSCAA Executive Director Joel Shinofield praised NC State's success, noting: "Coach Braden Holloway continues to produce excellent results— in and out of the pool— at NC State. We are very fortunate to have schools like NC State and people like Chancellor Woodson and Director of Athletics Yow who support these exceptional student-athletes."
This year the organization awarded a record number of 720 teams Scholar All-America status. To achieve the honor, programs must maintain a team GPA of 3.0 or higher during the 2017 spring semester.
The individual Scholar All-America selections recognize students that have achieved a grade point average of 3.50 or higher and have participated in their respective NCAA/NAIA/NJCAA Swimming and Diving Championships. The honorable mention selections have similarly achieved a GPA of 3.50 and achieved a "B" time standard or competed at a regional or zone qualifying meet.
