
No. 30 NC State Set for NCAA Regional

The Wolfpack to play No. 35 Oregon
NCAA PROGRAM
RALEIGH—Following its most astounding regular season in history, the No. 30 NC State women's tennis team (18-10) will travel to Athens, Ga., where it will play No. 35 Oregon (14-10) in the first round of the 2017 NCAA Tournament. The match will take place on Saturday at 9 am and will be held at the Dan Magil Tennis Complex.
The trip marks NC State's second NCAA appearance in a row and eighth overall.
The Wolfpack will be joined by first round opponent No. 3 seed Oregon (14-10), host No. 1 seed Georgia (17-5), and No. 4 seed South Carolina State (9-10). Georgia, who is ranked fifth in the nation, will face South Carolina State on Saturday at noon. The winners of the two matches will advance to the second round of the tournament and play each other on Sunday at 2 pm.
SEASON REWIND
NC State is looking to bounce back after a loss in the second round of the ACC Tournament. NC State dropped a 4-1 decision to Boston College, as the team's lone point was earned by Adriana Reami who defeated the Eagle's Emily Safron with a 6-1, 6-4 result. The team earned its best regular season record in history this year, compiling an 18-9 (7-7 ACC) ledger to break the program's record for most wins in a regular season as well as most wins over ACC opponents. Additionally, the Wolfpack tied its second-highest conference finish, placing fifth.
PACK IN THE POLLS
The Wolfpack enters the regional matchup ranked 30th in the country. In singles play, Martina Frantova is currently ranked 86th, while NC State's top doubles tandem of Frantova and Anna Rogers sits at No. 22. Frantova/Rogers has become the most decorated tandem in program history, tallying a record of 21-1. The duo will seek its 16th straight win this weekend.
SCOUTING OREGON
The Ducks are coming off historic play during the PAC-12 Tournament. In the first round, the team narrowly upset UCLA by a score of 4-3 to earn its first victory over the Bruins in program history. The team was unable to carry its momentum through the second round, however, and falling to Stanford by a score of 4-0.
This will stand as the NCAA debut for all nine of the ladies on the Duck's roster, as this is the team's first trip to the tournament in 10 years.
In the doubles polls, Alyssa Tobita and Shweta Sangwan sit at No. 83 with a 6-3 record at the top position. Both ladies are also ranked in singles play, as Tobita comes in at No. 79 with a 6-6 ledger playing at the No. 2 position and Sangwan is ranked 117th with a 4-10 record at the top singles position.
The Ducks and Wolfpack have only met once before, in 1997.
