Pack Softball Drops Series Opener In Extra Innings At Georgia Tech

ATLANTA - NC State's softball team dropped its series opener at Georgia Tech, 7-6, in extra innings on Friday evening at Mewborn Field in Atlanta.
Despite a three-run home run by Georgia Tech to tie the game in the seventh, both teams battled for three more innings as the Yellow Jackets drove in a run in the 10th on single to right field.
The Wolfpack falls to 12-25 (6-4 ACC) while the Jackets improve to 12-25 (5-8 ACC) on the season.
Game Rewind
-Both teams were kept scoreless in the first two innings, as neither team was able to tally a hit.
-In the third inning NC State grabbed a 3-0 lead. Haley Finn managed to reach second base on a throwing error to lead off the frame. Molly Martin was hit-by-pitch and Macauley Prickett reached on a fielder's choice to load the bases. Finn scored the first run on a wild pitch, and Jade Caraway drove in two more with a double to left field.
-The teams were kept at bay the next three innings, but Georgia Tech rallied back in the bottom of the seventh with a three-run homer by Draven Sonnon to send the game into extra innings.
-Both squads scored a run in the eighth inning to keep the game alive. Caraway drove in her third RBI of the contest with a single up the middle to score Martin from third. In the bottom of the frame Katie Krzus singled up the middle to score Jessica Kowalewicz from second.
-In the top of the ninth Brittany Nimmo hit a two-run blast to left field, her third of the year, to give her team a 6-4 lead.
-The Jackets knotted the game back up in the bottom as Kelsey Chisholm hit an RBI single to the shortstop and a Wolfpack error allowed Kowalewicz to score from third.Â
-In the bottom of the 10th Kaylee Ellebracht drove in Krzus from second for the game winning run after she led off with a single down the third base line.
-Caraway led the team at the plate with a 2-for-5 performance along with her three runs batted in.
-Peyton Silverman pitched all 10 innings of the game, striking out a career-high nine batters and only walking two.

NC State will face the Yellow Jackets Saturday in its second of a three-game stand at Mewborn Field. First pitch is set for 1 p.m.
