Â
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colorado – ACC Coach of the Year Wes Moore has been selected to serve on the USA Basketball Women's Junior National Team Committee, the organization announced recently.
Â
George Washington University head coach Jennifer Rizzotti will serve as the chair of the committee. Moore will be joined by University of Texas head coach Karen Aston and Temple University head coach Tonya Cardoza. Kara Lawson Barling, a 2008 Olympic gold medalist, will serve as the athlete representative on the committee.
Â
Men's and women's USA Basketball Junior National Team Committees, comprised of NCAA and athlete representatives, will issue invitations for trials and training camps and select coaching staffs and team members for college-aged teams, including USA Basketball U18 and U19 National Teams that will compete in the 2017 and 2019 FIBA U19 World Cups and 2018 and 2020 FIBA Americas U18 Championships, as well as the 2019 Pan American Games. The USA Women's Junior National Team Committee will also select the staff and athletes for the USA U23 National Team that will compete in August 2017 in the first U23 Four Nations Tournament, an event anticipated to be held annually through 2020.
Â
"We all have visions of being involved with USA Basketball or our respective national teams, so it was a great honor to receive that phone call," Moore said. "It's also very humbling. The selection of players that will vie for Olympic spots is both a great honor and a great responsibility."
Â
Moore led the Wolfpack to a 23-9 record and an appearance in the NCAA Tournament Round of 32 this season. The Wolfpack posted four wins over top-15 opponents, went 14-2 inside the friendly confines of Reynolds Coliseum, won 12 ACC games for the first time since 1998, and finished with the No. 17 national ranking in both the AP and USA Today polls. When he won the official ACC Coach of the Year award on March 1, he became the first women's basketball coach in program history to earn the honor.
Â
In four years at the helm of NC State's program, Moore has led the Wolfpack to an 86-43 record and two NCAA Tournament appearances. He is 40-24 in ACC games and has guided NC State to two fourth-place finishes in the ACC regular-season standings, each time significantly exceeding preseason expectations. Through 28 completed seasons as a head coach, Moore has earned a record of 644-212 and has achieved 27 winning seasons.
