RALEIGH, N.C. - Distance runner Erika Kemp has been named the ACC Women's Track Performer of the Week for the third time this season, the league office announced today.
Kemp continued her undefeated season with a win in the 5,000m at the Virginia Challenge on Saturday night, crossing the finish line in 15:41.23 to set the NCAA's fourth-fastest time this season. The time is a 16-second PR and moves her past Julie Shea to second place on NC State's 5,000m list – just eight seconds from Betty Springs' school record of 15:33.43.
After missing the 2016 outdoor season due to injury, Kemp is having a breakout year for the Wolfpack. This season, Kemp has raced three times in three different events and won all three races, while setting personal bests in the 1,500m and 5,000m. The redshirt junior from Mount Holly, N.J., also ranks in the NCAA top-10 in the 5,000m and 10,000m.
