Freshmen Stand Out on Day Two of NCAA Zone B Championships

Men's Three-Meter Prelims | Finals
AUBURN, Ala. —Two freshmen from the NC State diving team had standout performances on day two of the NCAA Zone B Championships, qualifying for finals in their respective events. Madeline Kline finished 16th in the women's one-meter competition and James Brady finished 15th in the men's three-meter event.

"Going back to our new motto of 'win or learn,' today was not a winning day, so we had a lot to learn. James and Madeline stepped up and they got an opportunity to dive a second list in finals. There are a few things we need to fix for the rest of the team to get into finals and that's the perk the summer season. During the off-season we can go back to the basics and clean things up.
"Hopefully we will learn from these two events and apply what we're learning moving forward. We're in the middle of the building process and I think watching your teammates in finals makes the rest of the team that much more hungry to be in finals the next time around."
Wolfpack Diving Results
In women's one-meter, Kline led the Wolfpack with a 17th place finish in prelims with a score of 256.85, earning her a spot in finals. There, Kline moved up one place to take 16th with an overall score of 518.05. Rachel Burston finished 21st in the event with a score of 246.90.
In the men's three-meter dive, Brady was NC State's highest finisher, earning a spot in finals by taking 17th in prelims with a score of 324.85. In finals, the North Carolina native improved to 15th place, posting a score of 680.40.
Harrison Mitchell was the Wolfpack's second-highest scorer, taking 28th with 273.15 points. Stewart Spanbauer rounded out NC State's showing in the event with a 31st place finish, scoring 245.70 points.

NC State will continue competition at the Zone B Diving Championships Wednesday where all five will compete on platform, as the women's competition will begin at 10 a.m. followed by the men's event at approximately 2:15 p.m. Live results will be available on DiveMeets.com.
