RALEIGH— Following its sweep of the ACC championships, the NC State swimming and diving team will send five from the Wolfpack to the 2017 NCAA Zone B Diving Championships hosted by Auburn. The meet will run March 6-8 inside the James E. Martin Aquatics Center.Â
James Brady, Harrison Mitchell, Stewart Spanbauer, Madeline Kline and Rachel Burston will represent the Wolfpack this year and compete to earn a spot at the NCAA Championships.Â
Quoting the Coaches
"This is the most divers we've qualified for this meet, and the exciting part is that we are young and we are still getting better and still learning," said head diving coach Yahya Radman. "So there's no tapering off for us, but the expectation for us is to have fun, to be loose and relaxed, and to learn from this and experience it. If we were to land in a qualifying spot for the NCAA championship in either gender, its a bonus, a total plus. If not, it's a young team. We're looking to make some damage next year, but we have to go through this process to get there."
Qualification Process
During the season, divers must score a certain mark to be invited to NCAA Zones. At each zone, divers must qualify for their invitation to the national championships.
Each of the NCAA's five zones earn a different amount of invite slots, based on how that zone's divers preformed at last year's NCAAs. The invites are determined by:
-Each zone is guaranteed five women's spots per event and four men's spots per event. (`A' cut)
-Zones earn bonus spots on top of those five/four based on last year's results. (`A' cut)
-Any eligible diver can compete in any of the three diving events at NCAAs, provided he/she earns one of the invitation spots and places top-12 in the other two events at that Zone. (`B' cut)
