Four NC State golfers shoot below par Monday

MOUNT PLEASANT, S.C. – Paced by four golfers shooting scores of 71 or better, the NC State men's golf team leapt from eighth to third in the team standings at the 2017 Hootie at Bulls Bay on Monday afternoon.
The Wolfpack shot a team score of 281 (-7) to sit at 568 (-8) through two of three completed rounds at Bulls Bay Golf Club. With 18 holes to play, NC State is just three strokes out of a tie for first place with South Carolina and No. 25 Mississippi.
Sophomore Stephen Franken shot the low round of the day for NC State, turning in a 69 (-3) to sit in a tie for seventh place with a cumulative score of 141 (-3). Jacob McBride (70), Nolan Mills Jr. (71), and Harrison Rhoades (71) also finished below par on Monday.
Freshman Benjamin Shipp (T11) still ranks second for the Wolfpack at 142 (-2), and was able to withstand a 75 on Monday due to his incredible 67 (-5) during Sunday's first round.
As a team, NC State leads the tournament field in birdies (43) and has the best average score on par fives (4.54, -23). Mills recorded the Wolfpack's first eagle of the tournament on Monday, shooting a three on the par-five fourth hole.
