NC State Downs VCU in Spring Action

RALEIGH, N.C. – The NC State women's soccer team defeated VCU 1-0 in a spring match at Sports Backers Stadium in Richmond, Va., on Saturday afternoon. The match was held in conjunction with the Jefferson Cup - one of the top youth tournaments in the region - in front of over 3,000 fans.
With the victory, NC State is still undefeated with a 1-0-1 record this spring.
Naomi Powell provided the winning tally, scoring in 85th minute. Powell took a pass from Kristina Schuster on the left side of box and curled a 20-yard shot into the right side of net.
"For the most part, we didn't play well on the day. Our passing wasn't consistent enough and unforced turnovers led to a few chances for them," head coach Tim Santoro said. "But with Jackie, Kia and Zee out, we were able to try a bunch of different combinations in attack and a lot of players got an opportunity to prove themselves."
NC State will be back in action Saturday, April 1st at 2 p.m. as it welcomes Richmond to Dail Soccer Stadium.
