RALEIGH—The No. 26 NC State women's tennis team will head south for two road matches this weekend, taking on No. 44 Miami at 2 p.m. on Friday and Florida State at noon on Sunday. The Wolfpack's match against the Hurricanes will be featured as USTA/ACC's Match of the Week and will be streamed live on ACC Network Extra.
Match of the Week Series
The team's match will kick off a seven week series produced by the ACC and USTA to spotlight a number of the league's top men's and women's tennis programs this season with the 2017 USTA/ACC Match of the Week series. One match will be aired per week. The full schedule can be found here.
Last Time Out
NC State fell to No. 3 North Carolina in a 7-0 decision on Tuesday at the J.W. Isenhour Tennis Center. The loss moved the team to a 8-4 (0-2 ACC) season record while North Carolina advanced to a 12-1 (1-0 ACC) season record.
Wolfpack in the Rankings
Despite falling from its highest ranking in program history (No. 16) after a tough loss to the Tar Heels, NC State remains in the top 30 nationally, taking the No. 26 standing. In singles, Martina Frantova remains as the 30th ranked player while the doubles tandem of Frantova and Anna Rogers sit as the 22nd ranked pair in the nation.
Scouting the Hurricanes
Miami will enter the match with a 2-4 (1-0 ACC) season record. In its most recent match against No. 2 Ohio State, the Hurricanes lost, 0-4. The team has three ranked singles players, led by No. 7 Sinead Lohan. The junior owns a 3-3 (1-0 ACC) record and has played all her matches at the top position. Estela Perez-Somarriba took the No. 76 rank in the latest singles poll and is 4-1 (1-0 ACC) this season. Rounding out the singles rankings is No. 97 Maci Epstein who is 1-3 (1-0) so far this season at the number two singles position. In doubles, Lohan and Dominika Paterova hold the No. 48 rank. Scouting the Seminoles
In its last match, Florida State fell to Georgia Tech, 5-2, moving its season record to 7-3 (0-2 ACC). Gabriella Castaneda leads the team with a 3-2 record in the number one singles position. In doubles play, Andrea Garcia and Julia Mikulski hold a 3-3 record in the top position while Nandini Das and Ariana Rahmanparast own a 7-1 record in the No. 2 position. The team will take on Wake Forest on Friday before Sunday's matchup. In the overall series, the Seminoles lead 23-4.
