
No. 31 NC State Falls to Virginia

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va.—The No. 31 NC State women's tennis team fell to the Virginia Cavaliers on Friday afternoon at the Boars Head Sports Club by a final score of 5-2. The loss moves the Wolfpack to an overall season record of 10-7 (0-4 ACC) while the Cavaliers advance to a 6-5 (4-0 ACC) record.

The Wolfpack started the match off with a win in No. 1 doubles as No. 30 Martina Frantova and Anna Rogers rolled past Virginia's Cassie Mercer and Chloe Gullickson, 6-1. Despite the strong start, Virginia responded with wins on court two and three to take the doubles point as the tandem of Rosie Johanson and Meghan Kelley defeated Bianca Moldovan and Claudia Wiktorin, 6-3, in No. 2 doubles and Hunter Bleser and Camille Favero won over Amanda Rebol and Tayla Stenta, 6-2, to clinch the doubles point in No. 3 doubles.
In singles play, Virginia earned its second point of the day with a win in No. 2 singles as the Cavaliers' Mercer defeated Wiktorin, 6-3, 6-2. In No. 3 singles, Rogers won her fourth-straight match, taking down Kelley, 6-3, 6-4, giving the Wolfpack its first point and moving the score to 2-1.
Virginia won the next two-straight points to win the match as Stenta fell to Camille Favor, 6-1, 6-3, in No. 6 singles followed by the match-clinching point in No. 1 singles where No. 34 Frantova was defeated by Johanson, 6-3, 7-5.
Virginia earned its final point of the match in No. 4 singles as Gullicksen defeated Adriana Reami, 6-4, 7-5. The match was concluded as the Wolfpack's Moldovan beat Teodora Radosavlijevic in No. 5 singles, 7-6(3), 6-3.

NC State will return to the J.W. Isenhour Tennis Center to host Boston College and Winthrop for a doubleheader Sunday. The first match will commence at noon followed by the second match at 5 p.m.
