Softball Drops Road Contest At Charlotte

CHARLOTTE, N.C. - The NC State softball team fell to Charlotte, 5-2, on Wednesday afternoon at the D.L. Phillips Complex in Charlotte, N.C. The Wolfpack moves to 3-12 and the 49ers improve to 13-4 on the season.

Game Rewind
-The Pack struck first as Tyler Ross drew a walk to lead off the inning, and a single to second base by Caraway moved her to third. On a 2-0 pitch count Caraway stole second and with no one to cover Ross walked in to give NC State a 1-0 lead.
-Charlotte took a 2-1 advantage in the bottom of the frame after Haley Pace hit a two-run homer to center field. The 49ers threatened in the second inning after loading the bases with no outs, but NC State ended the inning with a strikeout, fielder's choice at home plate and groundout to shortstop.
-Ross knotted the game in the third inning with a solo home run to right field. This marked her first round tripper of the season and 37th of her career. Caraway followed by stealing her second base of the game after hitting a single up the middle, giving her four this year on as many attempts.
-The 49ers took the lead back in the bottom of the inning as Lizzy Birch went deep to left field to bring in two more runs.
-Both teams were kept at bay in the fourth and fifth innings, but another home run by Birch in the sixth extended the 49ers lead to 5-2.
-NC State tried to rally in the seventh as two batters were walked on one out, but the next two were retired to end the game.

NC State returns to action Friday afternoon when it hosts Lehigh in the Homewood Suites by Hilton RDU/RTP Invitational at Dail Stadium. First pitch is slated for 2:30 p.m.
