Camel City, VT Elite Offer Wolfpack Big Opportunities

RALEIGH, N.C. – The NC State track and field team will compete at two high-level meets over the weekend, with chances to set national times and marks. Several NC State distance runners will head to Winston-Salem, N.C., for the Camel City Invite that features competition against professional athletes and some of the top runners in the NCAA. The Pack's throwers, sprinters and jumpers will compete against some of the country's top talent at the VT Elite in Blacksburg, Va.

Camel City:
NC State will line up several athletes for the college races on Friday to compete in 5,000m. The races will give the runners a chance to add ACC qualifying marks for the squad.

Saturday's elite races will feature strong competition, as professionals and college athletes will race together with the goal of setting some of the nation's fastest times in the mile and 3,000m. Last season the Pack set two school records and two national qualifying marks at the meet.

This year, Sam Parsons (3k), Ryen Frazier (mile), and Rachel Koon (3k) will line up for the elite races. They are joined by a host of professionals including Katrina Coogan, Kerri Gallagher, Paul Chelimo, Stephanie Garcia and Leo Manzano.

VT Elite:
The Pack's throwers, jumpers and sprinters will send a full squad to Rector Field House. All three groups will be in action at the facility for the second time this season. The team had an impressive meet a few weeks ago at the Hokie Invitational.

The competition will feature Virginia Tech(host), Tennessee, Florida, North Carolina and East Carolina.

The Pack has historically performed well at the meet and set nation-leading marks, as well as lifetime bests in events. Last season, Jonathan Addison set an NCAA-leading mark and school record in the long jump, while Joshua Davis and Grant Rivers also broke school records.

Pack in the Polls:
The NC State women's team moved to No. 16 in the USTFCCCA national poll. Erika Kemp (15:56.52) leads the Wolfpack women, checking in at No. 5 in the 5,000m. Rachel Koon (16:04.01) is currently ninth in the NCAA in the event. Additionally, the team has seven athletes ranked in the top-50.

Individually, Davis leads the men's team and is ranked seventh in the weight throw with a school record of 71'7.25", Cravont Charleston is ranked 15th in the 60m dash with a time of 6.66 and Shannon Patterson also has top-50 200 time of 21.35.

The Pack had a strong meet last weekend at Clemson's Bob Pollock Invitational, setting multiple PRs and several marks on the school's all-time bests lists. Davis held his spot in the weight throw national standings with another school record, while several sprinters ran historically fast times. The Pack also qualified athletes for the ACC Championships in the mile and 3,000m while seven distance athletes made season debuts.
