The Pack captured ACC and Southeast Regional titles and placed 8th at the National Championships in 2017.
GREENSBORO, N.C. -- NC State women's cross country head coach Laurie Henes has been named the Atlantic Coast Conference Coach of the Year, as announced by the conference office Tuesday morning. This marks the second year in a row that Henes has received the honor, and the third time overall.

Henes coached the Pack to its second-straight ACC title in 2017 as NC State dominated the women's 6K in Louisville. With a score of 43, the Wolfpack beat every team in the conference by more than 60 points. For the second year in a row, all five scorers for the Pack claimed All-ACC honors, highlighted by a 3-4-5 punch from Dominique Clairmonte, Elly Henes and Rachel Koon. Beth Taye placed 10th, while Ryen Frazier crossed the line 21st to claim the final all-conference nod.
The Pack women carried momentum from the conference meet into the NCAA Southeast Regional Championships, claiming their second-consecutive regional crown under Henes' guidance. All-Region performances from Clairmonte (5th), E. Henes (6th), Taye (8th) and Koon (16th) helped NC State secure an automatic bid to the NCAA National Championships. Henes was named the NCAA Southeast Region Coach of the Year earlier this fall.
NC State's season culminated with an eighth-place team finish at Nationals, led by an All-American performance from Elly Henes who finished 32nd individually. It was the Pack's third-straight top-8 finish at NCAA's, a feat that had not been accomplished since NC State claimed five-consecutive top-8 finishes from 1981-85.
This is the third ACC Coach of the Year award for Henes, who also received the honor in 2016 and 2006. Her total of three conference coach of the year awards ranks third in ACC history, only behind current NC State men's head coach Rollie Geiger (15) and Florida State's Karen Harvey (7).
