Wolfpack Wraps Up Day One Of Wake Invite

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – The first day of the Wake Forest Invitational is in the books, as the NC State men's tennis team played one round of doubles matches and two singles rounds Friday at the Wake Forest Tennis Complex.
HIGHLIGHTS:
The Wolfpack started the day off strong in doubles play. Igor and Ivan Saveljic teamed up to earn a 6-3 win over Davidson's Artem Khrapko and Matthew Rose. Freshmen Morgan Lohan and Tristan Smith fought to pick up their first collegiate doubles win, taking down Davidson's Shamael Chaundhry and David Hager by a 7-6 (7) decision.
In singles, Igor powered through a three-setter against Mercer's Sam Philp, winning 6-3, 3-6, 6-3 before falling in the quarterfinals to Kentucky's Jake Stefanik.
Ivan downed UNCG's Marcus Vidgren by a score of 6-3, 7-5. He went on to face Duke's Nick Stachowiak, the draw's two-seed, but fell just short to the Blue Devil sophomore.
Smith also added a singles victory, the first of his NC State career, to his day. He came back from being a set down to beat UNCG's Oliver Palmer 6-7 (5), 6-4, 6-2. In the quarterfinals, Smith took James Madison's Alvaro Arce to a tiebreaker for the second set, but Arce won that match 6-1, 7-6 (5).
Despite dropping his opening round singles match to one-seed Antonio Cembellin of Indiana, junior Georgiy Malyshev rallied to best ECU's Ronny Georgi 6-3, 6-4 in the consolation quarterfinals. Freshman Collin Shick also rebounded past a first round loss to earn a 6-4, 6-2 back draw win against Davidson's Tommy Mason.
