
Pack Falls to Northern Iowa in Battle 4 Atlantis Semifinals

Omer Yurtseven registers a double-double in defeat
PARADISE ISLAND, BAHAMAS – The NC State men's basketball team shot a season-low 33.8 percent from the field Thursday as Northern Iowa slipped past the Pack, 64-60, in the semifinals of the Bad Boy Mowers Battle 4 Atlantis.
The Pack's lowest shooting percentage in the first five games of the season was 45.6 percent, but NC State could never get on track offensively Thursday as the team shot under 40 percent in both halves.
Northern Iowa jumped out to a 19-12 lead eight minutes into the game, but the Pack played its way back into the game on the defensive end as NC State held the Panthers to just 13 points over the final 12 minutes of the half to even the score at 32 heading into halftime.
In the second half, NC State went on a 6-0 run midway through the final 20 minutes to push a one-point lead to a 49-42 advantage with 9:38 to play. The Panthers responded with a 10-2 run over the next four minutes, taking a 54-53 lead on two free throws by Bennett Koch with 5:35 to go.
The team's exchange the lead over the next few minutes with NC State taking its final lead at 58-56 on an Allerik Freeman lay-up with 3:38 to go. Freeman's basket was the last bucket for the Pack until four seconds remained in the game as Northern Iowa scored eight of the final 10 points of the game to capture the win.
NC State shot a season-high 30 three-pointers in the contest, making eight.
Omer Yurtseven led the Pack with 17 points and 13 rebounds for his second career double-double. Ten of the 13 rebounds came on the offensive end. The 13 rebounds are the most for an NC State player this season.
Yurtseven helped the Pack enjoy a massive advantage in bench points for the second consecutive game as NC State outscored Northern Iowa, 30-2, in points off the bench.
Allerik Freeman was the only other NC State player in double figures, finishing with 11 points and eight rebounds.
Tywhon Pickford led UNI with 18 points and 18 rebounds.
NC State closes play at the Battle 4 Atlantis Friday in the third-place game against Tennessee. The game will start at 2:30 p.m. and will be televised on ESPN2.
