PACK FACTS
-Â A new era for Wolfpack Basketball began March 17, 2017 when NC State announced the hiring of Kevin Keatts as the program's 20th head coach. A native of Lynchburg, Va., Keatts comes to Raleigh after a three-year stint at UNC-Wilmington. He led the Seahawks to a 72-28 (.720) overall record, including three-straight conference titles and back-to-back NCAA Tournament appearances in 2016 and 2017. Â
- The 2017-18 roster features nine returners, highlighted by senior forwards Abdul-Malik Abu and Lennard Freeman. Abu averaged 11.8 points and 7.0 rebounds in 32 games last season to lead all returning players. Freeman is back in the lineup after missing all of last year while recovering from an offseason leg surgery. Â
-Â Junior guard Torin Dorn enters his second year with the Pack after a productive 2016-17 campaign. The Charlotte, N.C. native appeared in all 32 games for NC State last season, averaging 9.5 points and 4.6 rebounds per contest. Â
-Â Keatts added two sharpshooting graduate transfers this past summer in Allerik Freeman (Baylor) and Sam Hunt (North Carolina A&T). Freeman boasts a career three-point shooting percentage of .373 that leads the Wolfpack, while Hunt ranks second on the team in that category at .349. Â
- Hunt has been extremely efficient from the free throw line throughout his college career. His .903 (224-248) career mark from the stripe leads the Pack. Â
- The Wolfpack will rely on sophomores Markell Johnson and Omer Yurtseven to step into a more prominent role this year. Johnson, the team's leading returner in assists (2.3) and steals (0.9) per game, is projected as the team's starting point guard for the 2017-18 campaign. Yurtseven, a towering 7-footer from Istanbul, Turkey, shot .457 from the field last year and will be a mainstay in the Pack's front court. Â
The Kevin Keatts era officially begins Friday, Nov. 10 with NC State's regular season home opener against VMI. The game is scheduled to tipoff at 7 p.m. at PNC Arena.
