Of four singles flights, Wolfpack sends three to finals
LAS VEGAS – The NC State women's tennis team concluded play at the Rebel Invite Sunday with three members contesting finals of their singles flights at the Ferttita Tennis Complex on the campus of UNLV.
Amanda Rebol fell in the final of the second flight 7-6, 7-6, to En-Pei Huang of UNLV while Taylor Bridges was runner-up in the third flight as suffered a 4-6, 7-6, 6-4, loss to UNLV's Izumi Asano. In the fourth flight, Tayla Stenta was beaten in the final by Juliet Zhang of UNLV 6-3, 6-1.
In consolation matches of the first flight Bianca Moldovan overcame Alex Sabe of Purdue 4-6, 6-3, 6-4, and Adriana Reami defeated Arizona's Devin Chypyha 6-4, 7-5.
In consolation matches of the first doubles flight Rebol and Adriana Reami toppled Eva Paalma and Domenica Gonzalez of Texas A&M 8-3 while Bridges and Moldovan fell to Arizona's Chypyha and Camila Westbrooks 8-4.
Thoughts from Coach Earnshaw
"Overall this was a good event for us," he said. "Today we got some extremely competitive matches in and that's all you can really ask. It's clear that we are prepared to fight hard and that was good to see. A couple of positions we could have made it much easier on ourselves closing out some sets but at the same time once that happened we hung in there and showed great character. It's been a long Fall in many respects, with a ton of travel and now it's time for us to get some recovery in and assess where we stand relative to our goals all with one eye towards preparation for the spring. Go Pack!"
