RALEIGH – After Thursday night's 2-1 win over Louisville at home, the NC State women's soccer team locked up the No. 3 seed in the ACC Championship and will host sixth-seeded Notre Dame in the first round Sunday at 1 p.m., which will be broadcast on the ACC Network Extra.
Sunday marks the first time an ACC Championship match will be contested at Dail Soccer Stadium. The Wolfpack heads into postseason play with a 13-4-1 (6-3-1 ACC) record while the Fighting Irish are 9-5-4 (5-3-2 ACC).
A win against the Irish in the quarterfinals would give the program its first ACC Championship win since 1995 and a trip to the ACC semifinals in Charleston S.C. If NC State were to advance it would face the winner of the UNC-Chapel Hill vs. Florida State match.
LAST TIME OUT
Thanks to a pair of second half goals by Tziarra King, the Wolfpack defeated Louisville 2-1 on Thursday evening and extended its win streak to five. King now holds 11 goals and 28 points on the season, ranking second in the ACC in both categories.
REWRITING THE RECORD BOOKS
With an impressive 13 wins in the regular season and back-to-back ACC Championship berths, the Wolfpack continues to rewrite the record books. NC State's 6-3-1 record in ACC play ties the most wins in program history, as it was last done in 1995. Its 19 points against conference opponents is the highest point total ever for the Wolfpack.
The Pack's third-place finish among the conference standings is additionally its best placement in program history since 1995 when the ACC expanded to eight teams and has since increased to its current size of 14.
HOME FIELD ADVANTAGE
NC State holds an 8-1-1 record at home, outscoring its opponents 17-3. The Pack also holds an eight-match unbeaten streak at Dail Soccer Stadium.
SERIES HISTORY
Sunday will mark the seventh time the teams have met, as the Irish hold a 5-1 advantage in the all-time series. NC State traveled to South Bend, Ind., on Sept. 24 for a regular season matchup, but dropped a 4-0 result.
The teams met in South Bend last season for the first round of the ACC Championship, but the Pack fell 1-0. A win Sunday would end a five-match win streak for Notre Dame in the all-time series.
