Wiktorin Advances to Round of 16 at ITA Carolinas Regional Championships

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – The NC State women's tennis team continued play on day two of the ITA Carolinas Regional Championships at the Cone-Kenfield Tennis Center on the campus of UNC-Chapel Hill on Friday, which saw junior Claudia Wiktorin advance to the quarterfinals of singles competition.
Singles
The Wolfpack started the day off on a high note with junior Claudia Wiktorin advancing to the second round thanks to a 6-2, 6-1 win against Lou Regen of Campbell. Sophomore Anna Rogers also progressed to the second round as she overcame Furman's Katty Weymouth 6-4, 6-3.
Freshman Taylor Bridges continued the impressive play she showed on day one with a 6-2, 6-1 first round win against Helena Nykios of the College of Charleston. Sophomore Adriana Reami showed grit as she toughed out a 7-5, 7-6, 6-2 win over Megan Davies of South Carolina, while junior Bianca Moldovan suffered a 6-2, 7-5 loss to No. 9 Duke's Kelly Chen. Senior Tayla Stenta fell in her consolation match 6-2, 4-6, 10-7 to Davidson's Megan Schlovinck. Amanda Rebol lost to Madara Straume of UNC-Wilmington 6-1, 3-6, 6-2 then suffered another loss in consolation to Sara Bondar of Coastal Carolina 6-2, 6-2.
Later in the day, Wiktorin continued her excellent form as she advanced to the round of 16 following her 6-4, 7-6 (2) defeat of No. 5-8 seed Hadley Berg of South Carolina. Unfortunately Rogers fell to No. 9 Alexa Graham of UNC 6-7 (4), 6-3, 6-4, while Bridges suffered a loss to No. 5 Ellyse Hamlin of Duke 7-6 (1), 6-0. Reami also suffered a setback against UNC's Makenna Jones as did Moldovan in the consolation round against Clemson's Sydney Riley losing 7-5, 4-6, 1-0 (12).
Doubles
First-seeded Wiktorin & Rogers advanced to the quarterfinals thanks to their 8-3 victory over Clemson's Daniella Ruiz & Tate Schroeder, while No. 9 Rebol & Reami fell to No. 5 Makenna Jones & Chloe Oullet Pizer of UNC.

At 10:00 A.M. tomorrow Wiktorin & Rogers contest their quarterfinal against Ema Lazic & Meible Lazic of Duke, while Wiktorin will back up after that in her round of 16 singles match against No. 9 Lauren Proctor of Winthrop.
