CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – Junior Claudia Wiktorin & sophomore Anna Rogers continued to show why they are one of the most highly respected doubles teams in the country as they advanced to the semifinals on day three at the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Carolinas Regional Championship on Saturday at the Cone-Kenfield Tennis Center on the campus of UNC-Chapel Hill.
Ranked No. 26 by the ITA in its preseason poll and seeded No. 1 for the tournament Wiktorin & Rogers faced ninth-seeded Meible Chi & Emma Lazic of Duke and overcame them 8-3
In singles, Wiktorin fell in the round of 16 to ninth-seeded Lauren Proctor of Winthrop 6-2, 6-1.
Thoughts from head coach Simon Earnshaw
"Another nice day for Anna & Claudia in doubles," he said. "Thought we came out with good energy and were very clean at the outset to jump out to a 3-0 lead. Got a little complacent and passive in our next service game which tightened things up but our response was great and we ran out with a solid 8-3 win to advance to the semifinals. In singles Claudia struggled early and credit to Proctor she's an extremely talented player and was incredibly hard to break down today. "
ITA Carolinas Regional Day Three Results Summary
Singles 3rd round: #55 Proctor (Winthrop) def. Wiktorin 6-2, 6-1
Doubles quarterfinal: #26 Wiktorin/Rogers def. Chi/Lazic (Duke) 8-3
