BUIES CREEK, N.C. - The NC State softball team traveled to Amanda Littlejohn Stadium to take on Campbell for a 10-inning matchup on Friday evening. The Wolfpack handled the Camels, winning by a score of 9-4.
Â
The Pack struck first, scoring a run in the opening frame when Haylee Kobziak drove in Angie Rizzi with an RBI single. Campbell immediately answered, posting four runs on as many hits in the bottom frame.
Â
Undeterred by the pressure from the Camels, the Wolfpack responded with lights out softball. Starting pitcher Brittany Nimmo found her stride in the second and shut down the Camels through the next two innings, as she didn't allow a hit and retired two through strikeouts.
Â
The Pack tacked on two runs in the third, cutting its deficit to one when Lily Bishop scored on a single from Jessica Moore, who later was brought home on a double to center field by Natalie Jones.
Â
NC State was quiet in the fourth and fifth but tied the game at four apiece in the sixth when Timberlyn Shurbutt drove in a run with a sacrifice fly. The Pack posted four more runs, two in the eighth and two in the tenth, which secured the victory over Campbell.
Â
Pitchers Nimmo, Devin Wallace, Harli Hubbard and Kama Woodall combined for five strikeouts and allowed just six hits in the contest compared to the Pack's 12.
Â
NC State will return to action Oct. 27th as the team will travel to Elon to take on the Eagles for a doubleheader at Hunt Softball Park with first pitch slated for 5 p.m.
