Galarneau & Ogden Reach Doubles Quarterfinal At ITA Carolina Regional

CARY, N.C. – In a packed third day of action at the Cary Tennis Park, sophomore Alexis Galarneau and junior Michael Ogden advanced to the doubles quarterfinal at the ITA Carolina Regional, taking down Duke's Jason Lapidus and Catalin Mateas 7-5, 6-3 in the Round of 16 Saturday.
Junior Igor Saveljic also continued his impressive run in the singles draw, advancing past the Round of 16 before falling in the quarterfinal.
HIGHLIGHTS:
Galarneau and Ogden continued to impress with solid doubles play. In a competitive match, both teams held the majority of their service games. Galarneau and Ogden managed to break Duke's serve at 6-5 in the first set to take the advantage over Lapidus and Mateas. They earned another key break at 4-3 in the second set, and Ogden served out the second set to take it 6-3.
In singles action, Igor Saveljic jumped out to a hot start in the Round of 16. He earned his first career win over a top-30 opponent, beating 28th-ranked Gabriel Friedrich in straight sets. Igor used an aggressive approach to take down Friedrich, who was the tournament's No. 2 seed, 6-4, 6-3 to remain unbeaten against ranked opponents this fall.
His win advanced him to an afternoon quarterfinal match, where he fought but ultimately fell to 7-6 (3), 6-3 to Henry Patten of UNCA.
Ogden also picked up a win in the singles back draw. Taking on Gardner-Webb's Millen Hurrion, the Wolfpack junior dropped the first set 6-2 but managed a comeback. Ogden won the second set 6-3 and the super tiebreaker 10-8.
UP NEXT:
The doubles quarterfinals resume Monday, with the match scheduled to be played not before 1 p.m. Galarneau and Ogden will match up against South Carolina's Wood Benton and Yancy Dennis. The winners from that match will advance to play in the semifinals later in the day.
