NC State seeks second victory over a top-10 foe this season

RALEIGH – The NC State men's soccer team returns to Atlantic Coast Conference action on Friday evening when No. 10/6 Virginia comes to Raleigh. Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. from Dail Soccer Stadium with live video coverage provided by Fox Sports South and ACC Network Extra.

LAST MATCH
Despite generating a 15-6 edge in shots and an 11-3 advantage in corners, NC State was held to a 0-0 draw by visiting USC Upstate Tuesday evening at Dail Soccer Stadium.
The Wolfpack dictated the pace and tempo of the match but was unable to find the back of the net. Junior forward and leading scorer Tanner Roberts recorded as many shots (6) as the entire team of Spartans, but NC State was denied seven times throughout the evening by USC Upstate goalkeeper CJ Cluck and once by a defender on the goal line.
STRONG RECORD AT HOME
In seven home matches this season, NC State is 5-1-1 and has outscored its opponents 12-6. Of the five remaining regular-season matches on the schedule, four will be played at Dail Soccer Stadium in Raleigh.
SHARE THE BALL
NC State ranks 43rd nationally with 19 assists on 16 goals this season. Freshman David Loera (3), junior Simon Blotko (3), and senior Ade Taiwo (3) are currently tied for the team lead.
CLIMBING THE RPI
In the second edition of the NCAA RPI report released on Oct. 9, NC State jumped from 74 to 57 after wins over Belmont (home) and Syracuse (road). This week, NC State drew USC Upstate on Tuesday and hosts Virginia (6) Friday.
NATIONAL TEAM OF THE WEEK
Junior defender Simon Blotko was named to the College Soccer News NCAA Team of the Week for the week ending October 8. The Wolfpack's starting right back provided two assists and helped lead a strong defensive effort in wins over Belmont (3-0) and at Syracuse (2-1).
TEAM ACADEMIC AWARD
NC State earned its ninth consecutive United Soccer Coaches Team Academic Award, the organization announced Oct. 5 when it released the data for the 2016-17 school year.
College Team Academic Award recipients are active members of the United Soccer Coaches College Services Program with a composite grade point average of 3.0 or better as a team. NC State has met these criteria for nine consecutive seasons beginning with the 2008-09 academic year.
STRONG DEBUT SEASON
Freshman goalkeeper Leon Krapf is in the midst of a strong debut season for the Wolfpack. The Gochsheim, Germany, native has played all 1122 minutes this year and ranks first in the ACC and 23rd nationally with five clean sheets. He has made 29 saves on the season and has posted a goals against average (GAA) of 1.12.
SCOUTING THE CAVALIERS (9-1-2, 2-1-2)
-Currently on a three-match winning streak.
-Outscoring opponents 26-13 this season.
-Record of 1-0-1 away from home.
-No. 15 scoring offense in the nation (2.17 goals per match).
-Edward Opoku ranks seventh in the ACC and 30th nationally with seven goals.
-Sixty-two percent of their goals this season have come between minutes 46-90.
