RALEIGH- The NC State women's tennis team swept its season opener on Saturday, shutting out both Appalachian State and Campbell, 7-0. The Wolfpack's two victories give the team an overall 2-0 start to the season.

"It's never perfect, the first match of the year. Essentially, we haven't played since the tournament in Vegas, and for some of the girls, not since the ITA Regional. So, they're definitely a little rusty," said head coach Simon Earnshaw.

"At the end of the day, the good thing was that we won every point. I think our goal was to try to get through this as cleanly as we could, and we knew if we did that we could see it as progress. We did that."

NC State vs. Appalachian State:
In the first match of the day, the Wolfpack dominated the Mountaineers, taking the doubles point and all singles points in straight sets.

Both NC State freshmen clinched wins in their first matches of the season. Anna Rogers only gave up one game the whole match, winning 6-1, 6-0 over Appalachian State's Gabrielle Wreder, while Adriana Reami won her match, 6-3, 7-5.

NC State vs. Campbell
NC State quickly took the doubles point against Campbell, as sophomores Bianca Moldovan and Claudia Wiktorin defeated their opponent, 6-1, and Amanda Rebol and Rogers won over Campbell , 6-1.

In singles play, all six ladies earned wins over the Camels. Junior Tayla Stenta was forced into a tiebreaker after splitting sets, but fought back to win the match, 6-1, 4-6, 10-8.

Appalachian State vs. Campbell
In a neutral match, Appalachian State fell to Campbell, 5-2. The loss pushes Appalachian State to 0-2 while Campbell moves to 1-1.

Up Next:
The Wolfpack will travel to Malibu, Calif. for the ITA Kick-Off Weekend on Jan. 28-29. The team will take on Arkansas in the first round of the tournament.
