Wolfpack to meet Orange for fourth time as conference opponents

RALEIGH, N.C. – After opening Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) play at home on Thursday, the NC State volleyball team will travel to New York for its first conference road trip against Syracuse.

First serve of Sunday's contest is slated for 1 p.m. inside the Women's Building. The Wolfpack enters the matchup with a 7-6 overall record and an 0-1 mark in ACC action, while the Orange are 2-9 and 1-0 in league play.

Series History
NC State and Syracuse will be meeting for the ninth time overall and fourth as league opponents. The Wolfpack leads the all-time series, 6-2, and has won two of three matchups with the Orange as ACC opponents.

Last year, the 'Cuse earned a 3-1 victory on their home court.

Last Time Out
In its last outing, NC State dropped a five-set battle against rival UNC-Chapel Hill. The Wolfpack led, 2-1, in the contest, but the Tar Heels rallied to win the fourth and fifth sets to secure the victory.

Lucky Number Two
NC State has won the second set in nine of its 13 matches this season. The Wolfpack has scored 311 points in the frame, the most in any set in 2016, and has allowed the fewest, 253, in a 25-point set.

Tale of the Tape
The Wolfpack has posted a perfect 5-0 record this season when recording more blocks than its opponent. In contrast, NC State has been out-blocked in all six of its losses this year.

Among the ACC Ranks
NC State continues the lead the ACC in team assists per set with 12.92, while senior setter Maggie Speaks is second in the league with 10.74 aps. The Pack is third in the conference with 13.48 kills per set, highlighted by junior outside hitter Julia Brown who is fourth in the ACC with 3.90 kps.

Senior libero Rachel Eppley leads the Wolfpack and is sixth in the conference with 4.26 digs per set to help the team garner the third-most digs in the ACC with 16.40 per set.

Scouting Syracuse
Syracuse has struggled this season, compiling a 2-9 overall record but opened ACC play with a 3-1 win against Boston College Friday night. The Orange have a 2-4 record in home matches this year.

The 'Cuse have the lowest team attacking percentage in the conference with a .151 clip and also own the fewest kills per set as a team in the league with 10.26. Despite its offensive woes, Syracuse is second in the ACC with 2.92 blocks per set.

Mackenzie Weaver leads the team offensively with 2.41 kills per set, while Anastasiya Gorelina has swatted 2.36 kps. Jalissa Trotter handles the setting duties and has dished out 6.12 assists per set. Defensively, Amber Witherspoon averages 1.46 blocks per set and libero Belle Sand owns 3.49 digs per set.
