Cary, N.C. - Three newcomers highlighted day one of the James Bonk Invite, hosted by Duke.
Junior transfer Alejandra Cisneros teamed up with freshman Anna Rogers to start the day off with doubles competition against a UVA squad. After an intense, 90-minute battle, the Wolfpack walked away with the win after a tiebreaker, 8-7-(13). The duo moved on to the Semifinals to compete against VCU, but fell in a close 8-6 match.
The second pair of doubles to represent NC State was freshman Adriana Reami and sophomore Claudia Wiktorin. The Pack dropped to Florida in the first round, 4-8. In the consulation finals, Reami/Wiktorin took on UNC, but struggled to find a rhythm, falling 8-3.
On the singles side of competition, three new editions to the program, Reami, Rogers and Cisneros, beat their competition to move on to the Semifinals. Reami beat No. 114 Seda Aarantekin of TCU 7-6(4), 6-4. Rogers beat Erica Susi of UVA 6-2, 7-5. Cisneros beat No. 117 Ana Madcur of Miami 6-3, 6-3. Wiktorin wrapped up the singles competition for the Wolfpack in a three-set match against Alexa Graham from UNC, but fell 6-3, 3-6, 6-2.
The Wolfpack will resume competition tomorrow with the second round of singles.
