RALEIGH – The NC State men's soccer team takes to the road this weekend for its first road match of the Atlantic Coast Conference schedule. The Wolfpack plays at No. 23 Virginia Tech Friday evening at 6 p.m.
A WOLFPACK WIN ON FRIDAY WOULD...
-Be the 498th win in program history
-Be the 118th win of HC Kelly Findley's career
-Be NC State's 16th win over Virginia Tech (24th meeting)
SERIES HISTORY
-Friday's match marks the 24th meeting between NC State and Virginia Tech.
-The Wolfpack holds a 15-7-1 edge in the series.
-In the last meeting between the teams, Virginia Tech picked up a 3-2 win in Raleigh on Sept. 26 of the 2014 season.
-In the last meeting between the teams in Blacksburg, NC State earned a 1-0 win on Oct. 12 of the 2012 season.
SCOUTING THE HOKIES
-Virginia Tech enters Friday's match the owner of a 5-1-0 record which includes an 0-1-0 mark in ACC play.
-The Hokies are currently ranked No. 23 in the latest NSCAA Coaches Poll.
-Virginia Tech is 2-1 against ranked foes this season, winning 1-0 at No. 18 Ohio State on Aug. 26 and 1-0 at No. 24 Georgetown on Sept. 5, and losing 4-1 at No. 1 Notre Dame on Sept. 9.
-The Hokies are led in scoring by Marcelo Acuna's four goals.
LAST MATCH
NC State fell 2-0 to visiting No. 37 Elon on Sept. 13. The Wolfpack went down 1-0 in the 18th minute of the match and was very unfortunate in the 32nd minute when an equalizing header by Maximilian Luftl was handled on the goal line by a defender after getting past the goalkeeper. Elon scored its second goal in the 42nd minute and held on to the 2-0 advantage despite the Wolfpack outshooting the Phoenix 6-2 in the second half.
ACCLIMATION PROCESS
Through the first five matches of the 2016 season, the Wolfpack has featured eight new players who have combined for 2,046 minutes. Defender Jake Dykes (437 minutes) and Maximilian Luftl (424 minutes) have seen seen the most action on the field among the new players.
