Volleyball Travels to Ole Miss for Weekend Tournament

RALEIGH, N.C. – The NC State volleyball team travels to Oxford, Miss., this weekend for a trio of matches at the Ole Miss Rebels Invitational. The Wolfpack opens play in the tournament against McNeese State at 4 p.m. Friday afternoon.

Saturday the Pack takes on UT Arlington at 11 a.m. and faces the host Rebels at 8:30 p.m. in a match that will be broadcast live on the SEC Network +. All times are Eastern Standard Time Zone.

Last Time Out
NC State opened the season strong last weekend, compiling a 2-2 record against some very tough opponents. The Wolfpack opened the season and the Linda Hampton-Keith era with a 3-0 sweep against Northwestern State.

After dropping a pair of matches to 2015 NCAA Tournament team, NC State finished the weekend well with a 3-1 victory versus Boise State, a program that won 23 matches a season ago.

Making The Honor Roll
Junior outside hitter Perry Ramsey enjoyed a great start to the season, finishing the opening weekend of play with 41 kills or 3.42 kills per set to earn a spot on the TCU Invitational All-Tournament Team. The all-tournament mention was the second of her career, as she was also named to the squad at the Georgia Invitational as a freshman.

Stellar Debut
Outside hitter Erin Chatman made her debut in an NC State uniform against Boise State last weekend and did so in style, putting down a career-best 15 kills in the first start of her collegiate career. The Ohio State transfer also

Scouting McNeese State
The McNeese State Cowgirls opened the season at the Southern Miss Invitational last weekend, charting a 1-2 record in the event. The squad played at Mississippi State Sunday and narrowly dropped a 3-2 decision to run its record to 1-3 on the year.

Friday's matchup will be the first meeting between NC State and McNeese State.

McNeese was picked to finish seventh in the Southland Conference preseason poll.

Scouting UT Arlington
University of Texas at Arlington enters the weekend with a 2-2 mark on the year, after dropping a 3-2 decision at North Texas in its last outing. The Mavericks own wins against Sam Houston State and Arkansas-Pine Bluff.

NC State and UTA have met one time in the history of the programs with the Mavericks winning that contest, 3-0, in 1987.

The Ole Miss Rebels own a 3-0 mark on the year, after defeating UC Davis, North Dakota and Nebraska-Omaha in their opening tournament at North Dakota.

The Wolfpack and Rebels met last season, with Ole Miss edging NC State in five sets, 3-2. Ole Miss leads the overall series, 2-1.

In a preseason poll by the league's head coaches, Ole Miss was picked to finish 12th in the Southeastern Conference (SEC).
