RALEIGH- Recent graduate Rachael Taylor has had a summer full of strong play in various amateur tournaments around Europe. In addition to her tournament schedule, she plays for a local golf club in her home country of Germany.
The following is a personal explanation and update on the recent success she and her team has had on the course:
I play for GC am Reichswald in Nuremberg and the team competes in the highest amateur league in Germany, which is the 1. Bundesliga. We're in the south division with GC Munich, GC Olching, GC St.-Leon-Rot and GC Rheinhessen. We are currently at the top of the league!!
We play five 'tournaments' each year at each one of the sites. We played the fourth tournament on July 17 at Munich Golf Club. Our last is in two weeks on July 31 at GC Olching, just outside Munich.
We play six singles in the morning and three foursomes in the afternoon, all stroke play. We finished second behind Munich! ST Leon Rot was third - Laura Kowohl plays there too!
I shot level par 72 in the morning, which I was happy about. It was steady golf! I didn't hole many putts but was hitting fairways and greens all morning. In the previous tournament I shot 70 (-2).
In the afternoon I played foursomes with my partner, who also plays for the German girls team. We shot 70 (-2), which was a great result. I holed a 17m birdie putt on the last hole- that was fun! She caddied for me a few years ago and we've played foursomes together since last year and thoroughly enjoy it! We get along great and work extremely well together.
I'm off to Sweden today now play in the individual European Ladies Amateur Championship which starts Wednesday. It's being played at GC Hooks. Leo (Bettel) will be there as well which is exciting!
