Perry Takes Fourth in Long Jump, Advances in 100m Hurdles

EUGENE, Ore. – Alexis Perry had quite the day, as she advanced to the 100m hurdle finals and became a First-Team All-American in the long jump. Perry finished sixth in the hurdles with a time of 12.96 and fourth in the long jump with a leap of 20'8.50".

The Durham, N.C., native's long jump earns five points for the team, moving the Wolfpack women to 20th place. The finish brings her to three career All-America honors.

100m hurdles:
Perry took second in her heat to earn an automatic qualifying spot, clearing the hurdles in 12.96. She has now dipped under 13 seconds four times in her career, and her time was just .06 from her personal best in the event.

Perry has made huge strides in the event in a year's time. In 2015, She missed out on the finals, finishing 14th overall with a mark of 13.14.Â

The Durham native is now guaranteed First Team All-America honors and points for the team. She will join Ebony Foster as one of only two athletes in program history to become a First Team All American in the event.Â

The finals for the 100m hurdles will run Saturday at 7:12 p.m. and be broadcast on ESPN.Â

Minutes after Perry advanced to the 100m hurdles finale, she competed in the long jump, finishing fourth with a mark of 20'8.50". The finish is her third career All-America honor and it marks her first time earning points for the team at NCAAs.

After fouling her first jump, Perry vaulted from the bottom of the standings to the top five with her leap of 20'8.50". The jump held throughout the rest of the competition, as Perry finished fourth to earn five points for the team.

She is the second athlete in program history to become a First Team All-American in the long jump. Karimah Shepherd earned the honor in 2013.

Perry finishes her NCAA career in the event as the outdoor school record holder with a leap of 21'6.75". She has a USATF Olympic Trials mark in the long jump and will return to Eugene in July to compete for a spot on Team USA for the 2016 Olympics.
