NC State’s Brian Brown, Brock Deatherage, Brett Kinneman, Andrew Knizner, and Chris Williams made the All-ACC Academic Baseball Team
NC State baseball placed five on the All-ACC Academic Baseball Team, led by three-time honoree Andrew Knizner, announced Friday by the conference office.
Knizner wraps up his Wolfpack career with an All-ACC Academic distinction in all three seasons, punctuated with a CoSIDA Academic All-America second team mention this offseason. The junior earned a spot in the St. Louis Cardinals organization in the seventh round of this year's draft.
Sophomore Brian Brown returns to the All-ACC Academic team for the second time. Brown finished the year with a 7-3 record over 17 starts, while representing the program as a Spring 2016 Caterpillar Scholar Athlete.
Louisville Slugger freshman All-American Brett Kinneman adds an All-ACC Academic team mention to his resume which features a 3.736 career GPA and a .296 batting average through 34 starts.Â
Brock Deatherage hit .317, starting in all 60 games for the Pack, with six homers including the game-winner against Georgia Tech in the ACC Tournament. Deatherage submitted a 3.5 GPA for the semester, a Caterpillar Scholar Athlete and Dean's List honoree, to make his first appearance on the All-ACC Academic team.
Chris Williams capped his NC State career with his first All-ACC Academic mention. Williams set career highs across the board in 2016, pitching 32 1/3 frames to achieve a 2-0 record and 2.51 ERA. The fifth-year senior crafted a 3.113 GPA in Biological Sciences to become a Spring 2016 Caterpillar Scholar Athlete.
