Cooke and Franken Earn All-ACC Academic Team Honors

RALEIGH – David Cooke and Stephen Franken of the NC State men's golf team have been named to the 2016 All-ACC Academic Men's Golf Team, the Atlantic Coast Conference announced in a release Tuesday morning.

Cooke, a senior, and Franken, a freshman, combined for 12 top-20 finishes in tournaments during the 2015-16 season. Franken finished the season with NC State's best scoring average per 18 holes (71.8 strokes) while Cooke was not far behind, ranking fourth on the team at a clip of 73.0 strokes per round.

Senior (2015-16): All-ACC Academic Team … Played in 10 tournaments and 29 rounds throughout the season … Ranked fourth on the team with a 73.0 stroke average per 18 holes … Earned five top-20 finishes and three top-10 finishes during the season … Finished in the top five of tournament fields at the Quail Valley Invite (5th), Hootie at Bulls Bay (3rd), and Wolfpack Spring Intercollegiate (1st) … Took first place at the Wolfpack Spring Intercollegiate with a Lonnie Poole Golf Course tournament record score of 198 (-15) … Recorded a hole-in-one at the Wolfpack Spring Intercollegiate … 24 of his 29 rounds throughout the season counted towards the team score … Shot at or under par in 12 of his 29 rounds.

Freshman (2015-16): All-ACC Academic Team … PING All-Region East Team … Played in 11 of 13 tournaments, leading the team with a 71.8 stroke average per 18 holes … Earned seven finishes in the top 20 of tournament fields and two within the top 10 … Best finish of the season was a third-place result (205, -8) at the Wolfpack Spring Intercollegiate … In just his second collegiate tournament, placed fourth (207, -9) at the Quail Valley Invitational … Best round of the season was a 66 (-6), achieved at the Schenkel Invitational … Best 54-hole score of the season was a 205 (-8), achieved at the Wolfpack Spring Intercollegiate … 19 of his 32 rounds were shot at or under par … 29 of his 32 rounds counted towards the team score.

Minimum academic requirements for selection to the All-ACC Academic Team are a 3.0 grade point average for the previous semester and a 3.0 cumulative average during one's academic career for undergraduate students. Athletic achievements during the most recent season are also considered in selecting the All-ACC Academic Team.

The ACC Honor Roll, which recognizes all conference student-athletes with a grade point average of 3.0 for the current academic year, will be released in July.
