CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – After a strong freshman campaign at NC State during which he led the team with a 71.8 stroke average and earned seven top-20 finishes, Stephen Franken placed third at the 2016 N.C. Amateur Championship Sunday.

Franken carded a three-round score of 282 (-6) and finished just two strokes behind tournament champion Nicholas Lyerly. The tournament was played at the Governors Club in nearby Chapel Hill.
