NC State Softball Falls in Season Finale at No. 19 Notre Dame

NOTRE DAME, Ind. – Despite NC State having the tying run step to the plate in the seventh, 19th-ranked Notre Dame avoided the threat and secured a 4-0 victory Sunday afternoon to clinch the series.
The Wolfpack concludes the season with a 23-33 overall record and a 6-18 clip in Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) play, while the Fighting Irish complete the regular season at 39-10 and 13-7.
The Rundown
- One of the ACC's top offenses struck early in the contest, as Notre Dame plated a pair of runs in the bottom of the first to take a 2-0 lead.
- Kimmy Sullivan had an RBI single in the frame and the other run scored as the result of an NC State error.
- The Irish added a run in the second and the third, before going quietly in its final three at-bats.
- Trailing 4-0, the Wolfpack looked to mount a comeback in the seventh.
- Senior Maggie Hawkins led off the frame with a sharply-hit single to center field in the final at-bat of her collegiate career.
- Alyssa Compton also singled to center field and Cheyenne Balzer dropped a single into right center to load the bases with one down to bring the tying run to the plate.
- Unfortunately for the Pack, a pair of swinging strikeouts followed, as Notre Dame escaped with a 4-0 victory.
