No. 45 Martina Frantova fell to No. 33 Arianne Hartono in Tulsa Wednesday afternoon
FIRST ROUND RESULTS
TULSA, Okla. – No. 45 Martina Frantova concluded her premier season with the Wolfpack Wednesday afternoon as she fell 6-1, 6-4 to Ole Miss' No. 33 Arianne Hartono in the first round of play at the 2016 NCAA Singles Championship.
Frantova closes a historic season with a 30-14 overall, 14-10 dual record at the No. 1 singles position. The all-conference second team selection ranked among the nation's top 65 Division I singles players throughout the entire 2016 season, boasting numerous wins over nationally-ranked opponents at the top of the Pack lineup.
The first-round matchup against Ole Miss' top performer proved to be a challenge for Frantova Wednesday afternoon. Opposite her seventh top-35 opponent in 2016, Frantova struggled to find her groove as Hartono took the first set 6-1. She managed a lead over the Rebel in the second set of play but ultimately fell 6-4, concluding her run for the NCAA Singles title.
Frantova's bid to the NCAA Singles Championship comes as just the fourth-ever individual selection in NC State women's tennis history. Frantova, along with five returning Pack players and the addition of two five-star recruits, will resume action in the fall when the team opens the 2016-17 season.
