GREENSBORO, N.C. - Naomi Ko shot 2-under for the day and three players finished in the top 20 as NC State women's golf placed 5th at the ACC Women's Golf Championship at Sedgefield. Ko shot even for the tournament and tied for fifth in the 60-player field, while Rachael Taylor tied for 15th and Sarah Bae placed 19th.
FINAL RESULTS
Ko, in what was the best tournament of her freshman season so far, earned par on each of the first eight holes before carding birdies on 9 and 10. She held steady and was 3-under until the final hole of the day. Taylor shook a rocky start to finish with a 3-over 75. She was 1-under on the back nine and finished with the best ACC tournament finish of her career.
"I couldn't get my putting and chipping down early, but I went slowly, took my time and made sure my stroke was good," Taylor said. "I made a really good birdie on the 9th hole and kept it going from there."
Bae improved each day and finished with an even par 72 on the final round. Bae earned a clutch birdie on the 18th hole to finish even for the day.
Taylor, the team's lone senior, displayed great pride in the play of the team's freshmen, specifically Ko's performance at the par 72, 6,089-yard Sedgefield that is the home to the PGA Tour's Wyndham Open.
"Naomi's game has really improved a lot. Her hard work is paying off," Taylor said. "Our freshmen really stepped up."
Freshmen India Clyburn and Leonie Bettel placed 37th and 41st, respectively.
Virginia repeated as ACC champion, winning the tournament by 11 shots over runner-up Wake Forest. Duke placed third and North Carolina was fourth.
