Cooke, NC State Dominate Saturday at Wolfpack Spring Intercollegiate

RALEIGH – Led by a historic day from senior David Cooke in his final home tournament, the NC State men's golf team dominated the first two rounds of the 2016 Wolfpack Spring Intercollegiate Saturday.
As a team, NC State shot scores of 266 (-18) and 278 (-6) to finish the first day of action with a cumulative score of 544 (-24). The Wolfpack is nine strokes ahead of No. 16 USF and 24 strokes in front of ACC rival No. 21 Virginia.
NC State was led by outstanding performances from David Cooke, Stephen Franken, and Jacob McBride, all of whom are in the top three of the 93-golfer field. Cooke shot a course and program-record score of 62 (-9) in the first round and followed this up with a 67 (-4) in the second round which featured a hole in one on number six. Franken and McBride are tied for third place in the field, having shot matching scores of 136 (-6) through two rounds of play.

The Wolfpack built a 17-stroke lead through just one round of golf on Saturday. Three of NC State's top four golfers were well under par in the opening round while the team's fourth—freshman Davis Richards—achieved an even-par score of 71. In addition to Cooke's program-record score of 62, Jacob McBride (66) and Stephen Franken (67) also shot below par during the first round.
BEST TEAM ROUND
NC State's combined team score of 266 (-18) ranks as the best score of the season and one of the best ever achieved in program history.
SUNDAY TEE TIMES
Sunday's third and final round will feature NC State golfers teeing off between 9:30 and 10:15 a.m. NC State's first team will tee off between 9:30 to 10:06 from hole one while the Wolfpack's "B" squad will begin from hole 10 between 9:39 and 10:15 a.m.
