
Ryan Hill Wins Silver at World Indoors

PORTLAND - NC State distance legend, Ryan Hill, wrapped up his indoor season with a silver medal in the 3,000m at the IAAF World Indoor Championships in Portland on Sunday. Hill crossed the finish line in 7:57.39.

The Hickory, N.C., native continued his success in the professional ranks, concluding the 2016 indoor season as a USATF National Champion and the Millrose Games champion in the 3,000m - in addition to his silver medal at Worlds.

His runner-up finish marks an eight-spot improvement from his 10th-place finish in 2013.

The Rundown:
At the World Championships, Hill qualified for the finals of the event, finishing fourth in the preliminary round with a time of 7:52.13.

In the finals, Hill settled into a good position and stayed near the middle for most of the race.

He used his patented kick during the final 200m to race from fifth to second place and claim his first international medal. Hill kicked past two former World Champions and then leaned past 2-time indoor medalist Augustine Kiprono Choge as he crossed the finish line.

To qualify for Worlds, He won the 3,000m race just two weeks ago at USATF National Indoors to claim his second career national title. Hill beat out Paul Chelimo with another kick down the stretch for the win.

He ran with the Wolfpack from 2008-2011. He closed out his career as a 10-time All-American and school record holder in five events. He led the men's team to ACC cross country titles in 2009 and 2011 and was a seven-time ACC Champion on the track.
