BALTIMORE- After contributing strong scores on vault and floor last weekend in the NC State gymnastics team's win at home, freshman Alexa Phillips was named EAGL Rookie of the Week as announced by the conference office Tuesday morning.
This marks the second mention of the season for the Athens, Ga., native, and the sixth-straight week NC State has earned a weekly award.
Last weekend the Wolfpack clinched its sixth consecutive win of the season over Ball State at home, defeating the Cardinals, 195.900-194.775. The Pack earned seven career-high marks and 16 top-five finishes on the meet, as well as a season-best performance on bars (49.275) as a team.
Phillips' outing was highlighted by a career-best 9.900 on floor to win the event, while she also earned a score of 9.725 on vault to finish fifth in the rotation standings.
NC State returns to action Saturday when it travels to Pittsburgh for the EAGL Championship. The meet is set for a 2 p.m. start inside Fitzgerald Field House.
