Pack Clinches Second-Straight 200 Free Podium Sweep On Day Three Of ACCs

NC State has collected seven gold medals through three days
GREENSBORO, N.C.- The NC State swimming and diving team's third day of competition at the ACC Championships was highlighted by a podium sweep in the 200 freestyle for the second-straight year, as Simonas Bilis bested his school record in the event to earn his second-straight event title Friday evening. Â
Through three days of competition inside Greensboro Aquatic Center, the Wolfpack has collected seven gold medals, landed on the podium 13 times and tabbed nine records. Heading into the final day of competition, the Pack holds a 142.5 point lead over Louisville (785.5) in the team standings with 928.
UNC-Chapel Hill sits in third among the team standings with 639.5 while Virginia Tech is in fourth with 600 points.Â

Wolfpack Relays
The 400 medley relay of Hennessey Stuart, Derek Hren, Soren Dahl and Joe Bonk earned the runner-up spot in the event with an NCAA qualification time of 3:06.25.
Individual Medley
Christian McCurdy landed on the podium in the 400 individual medley, as he placed third with a time of 3:44.06. Austin Snyder finished behind his teammate in fourth in the event standings with a career-best mark of 3:44.39.Â
Snyder's performance stands as the second-fastest time in program history.
In the 400 IM B final, Anton Ipsen moved up three places in the freestyle leg of the event to win his heat with a personal-best time of 3:45.85.
Butterfly
James Bretscher and Jason Deana represented the Pack in the B final of the 100 butterfly, as they posted personal-best marks to earn top-three finishes in their respective heat.
Deana stopped the clock at 47.05 for the fifth-fastest time in the record book, while Bretscher touched the wall at 47.39 to notch the No. 6 time in program history.Â
Freestyle
NC State managed to sweep the podium for the second-straight time in the 200 free and have three guys break the 1:33 barrier to notch NCAA 'A' cuts.Â
Bilis captured his second-straight title in the event, posting a school record time 1:32.46. Soren Dahl and Ryan Held rounded out the podium with times of 1:32.88 and 1:32.97, in respective order.Â

Breaststroke
Breaststroke specialist Derek Hren clinched the first conference title of his career, as he stopped the clock at 52.57 in the 100 breaststroke to post a school record.

Backstroke
The Pack managed to put two on the podium in the 100 backstroke, as Andreas Schiellerup notched a school record time of 45.87 and Stuart touched the wall at 45.92 to finish third.Â

The Wolfpack men will continue competition at the ACC Championships, as Saturday's prelims will begin at 10 a.m. while finals are set for a 6 p.m. start.
