RALEIGH – The No. 65 NC State women's tennis team dominated in its Saturday doubleheader against FGCU and Elon with two 7-0 victories to maintain its undefeated streak at home. The Pack is now 5-0 at home and 6-1 overall.Â
Â
The day was an all-around sweep for the Wolfpack. Both duals started off strong in doubles play and the Pack was able to clinch the point in the first two finishes. Of the day's twelve singles matchups only one required more than two sets to produce a win. Matched up against Laura Falceto Font of FGCU, Amanda Rebol fell in the first set 6-7 (4-7), took the second 6-2 and was able to secure the win with a 10-6 tiebreaker in the dual's final singles finish. Prior to her victory teammate Claudia Wiktorin collected a swift 6-2, 6-0 win over Alexandra Landert with Bianca Moldovan earning a 6-1, 6-2 victory over Elizabeth Means soon after. No. 57 Martina Frantova downed Breana Stampfli 6-2, 6-3 securing the match as the Pack proceeded to achieve a 7-0 sweep against Florida Gulf Coast.
Â
Â
The Red and White's second match of the doubleheader featured a visit from Elon. FGCU had defeated Elon 4-3 the day prior to the doubleheader in Raleigh. The Wolfpack sent the Phoenix home with far fewer victories than it had acquired against the Eagles. NC State dominated Elon 7-0 allowing not so much as a tiebreaker. Two quick doubles wins allowed the Pack to take the court for singles play for the second time Saturday finishing even stronger than its earlier dual.
Â
Moldovan captured another quick finish with a 6-0, 6-2 defeat of Suzanne Zenoni and No. 57 Frantova took down Olivia Lucas 6-4, 6-2. Joanna Nalborska clinched the Pack's second win of the day with a 6-3, 6-2 win over Erica Braschi which was quickly followed by Wiktorin's 6-4, 6-3 defeat of Maria Paraja.
Â
Tayla Stenta entered a matchup against former teammate Natalia Janowicz for the second time in the 2015-16 season. Stenta and Janowicz met during the fall season at the ITA Carolina's Regional where Stenta netted a 6-4, 6-4 victory over Janowicz. In similar form, the sophomore defeated her Phoenix foe 6-2, 6-3 Saturday afternoon.
Â
Rebol, establishing somewhat of a trend, fought through another intense singles matchup, this time against Elon's Taylor Casey. Rebol took the first set 6-4, battling a deficit through most of the second set. Reaching her largest deficit of three points, Rebol clamored her way back into the match, edging Casey and ultimately capturing the match with a 6-4, 7-5 win to end the day.
Â
Â
The Wolfpack earned its second 7-0 victory of the day over Elon capping the day with another doubleheader win at home. This was the team's second doubleheader sweep of the season having previously defeated No. 42 William & Mary 4-3 and VCU 4-3 in its first doubleheader of the season last month.
Â
Following Saturday's doubleheader assistant coach Gina Suarez-Malaguti shared her thoughts on the final results and what factors she felt contributed to the team's success:
