Hot Start Not Enough In Loss At No. 7 Virginia

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. - NC State couldn't have started any better. The Wolfpack made its first six shots of the game and had an early lead but No. 7 Virginia survived the hot-shooting Pack to defeat the NC State men's basketball team 73-53 on Monday night.
Anthony 'Cat' Barber led the Wolfpack with 14 points. Cody Martin added 12 and led the team with six rebounds.
Virginia's Malcolm Brogdon shot 9-for-13 and scored 22 points. London Perrantes hit five 3-pointers and finished with 19 points. The UVa duo combined to shoot 9-for-15 from 3-point range.
NC State scored 31 points in the first half, the most allowed by Virginia at home this season. The two teams traded shots in the first half and the Pack shot .522 but the score was tied at 31.
Virginia (21-5, 10-4) scored the first six points of the second half and didn't look back. UVa outscored NC State 42-22 in the second half and shot .630 after halftime.
Gott Said It: "Virginia was terrific in the second half. They went 6-for-9 from ''3', we went 0-for-9. That's a pretty big spread right there. Brogdon and Perrantes for the difference makers for them.We just had one bad half. We'll flush it out of our system and move on and get ready to play this weekend."
200: BeeJay Anya blocked four shots, becoming the second player in NC State history to reach 200 career blocks. The school record is 207, held by Thurl Bailey.
