RALEIGH, N.C. - After serving one year as an assistant coach with the NC State women's soccer program, Tom Anagnost has been hired by Mississippi State as the program's head coach.
"I want to thank Tom for his time at NC State," said Wolfpack head coach Tim Santoro. "He made a selfless decision to come to Raleigh and he helped us take another step forward in our rebuilding process. But Tom is a top-quality head coach and Mississippi State made an incredible choice. Congratulations to John Cohen and his staff on this decision and I wish Tom nothing but the best and will follow his program closely."
"I want to personally thank Tim Santoro for the wonderful opportunity he gave me to be on staff at NC State University," said Anagnost. "He and Mike have built an incredible family culture filled with great people and I'm eternally thankful to have been a part of it. The new leadership under Raymond Harrison is remarkable and this last year will never be forgotten. Every person there is so special to me and I'm going to miss them all. NC State is truly an extraordinary place for young women to play soccer."
Anagnost was a member of NC State's 2016 National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) Southeast Staff of the Year, which is currently up for the NSCAA National Staff of the Year Award.
Anagnost served an important role in the Wolfpack's impressive breakout season that concluded at the Sweet 16 of the NCAA Championship. He also helped the squad earn its second-best ACC season in school history and reach its most wins in a season since 1995.
The team reached numerous milestones during the historical season, including ending a 20-year NCAA Championship appearance drought and making a 186-spot improvement in the RPI for the program's highest finish in the RPI. The team concluded the year ranked 23rd by TopDrawerSoccer and 24th in the NSCAA Poll.
