
NC State Dominates South Alabama 74-31 to End Non-Conference Play

MOBILE, Ala. – The NC State women's basketball team (10-3) got back to its winning ways Monday evening in its final non-conference action of the season, earning a one-sided 74-31 win at South Alabama inside the Mitchell Center.
All 13 Wolfpack players saw at least nine minutes of action during the contest, with not one playing in excess of 20 minutes. NC State was led offensively by 12 points from Chelsea Nelson and a career-high 10 points from Akela Maize. The Wolfpack shot .500 from the field or higher in two of four quarters and ended the game with a solid 27-60 (.450) success rate from the field while holding South Alabama (5-5) to 11-58 (.190) shooting.

The Wolfpack would carry this run deep into the second quarter, scoring 28 consecutive points in total to make it 34-5 before Colby Davis sank a free throw with 2:35 remaining in the first half. All told, the 28-0 run spanned 12:56.
NC State held the Jaguars to single digits in the first three quarters of play, advancing to a 56-19 advantage through 30 minutes. A young lineup of four freshmen, two sophomores, and one junior closed out the final 10 minutes of the game scoring 18 of the final 30 points to arrive at the final score of 74-31.
NC State opens Atlantic Coast Conference play at home on Thursday, Dec. 29 against No. 2 Notre Dame. Tip-off is scheduled for 7 p.m. from Kay Yow Court inside Reynolds Coliseum.
