RALEIGH – The NC State women's basketball team added depth to its future backcourt on Monday by announcing the addition of transfer student-athlete Armani Hawkins. Formerly a member of the Arizona State women's basketball team, Hawkins will join the Wolfpack and be eligible to play following the conclusion of the 2017 fall semester.
"We're very excited about adding Armani," NC State head coach Wes Moore said. "Her athleticism and ability to score the ball will serve her well in our system. With the graduation of three guards playing prominent roles this season (2016-17), her experience at this level will be especially important next year."
Listed at 5-foot-10, Hawkins was the No. 22 guard and No. 100 overall prospect in ESPN's class of 2015 recruiting rankings. The Mesa, Ariz., native played her freshman season (2015-16) at Arizona State for a Sun Devils team which posted a 26-7 record and advanced to the second round of the 2016 NCAA Tournament. Hawkins appeared in 10 games for the Sun Devils, averaging 1.5 points per contest and a shooting percentage of .429 (6-14). To this point in her sophomore season, Hawkins has played in six games and averaged 3.2 points per outing. She led all scorers with 14 points on 6-8 shooting from the field in Arizona State's 76-40 season-opening win over Illinois State on Nov. 11.
Through four years at Mountain View High School in Mesa, Ariz., Hawkins averaged 13.9 points, 3.9 rebounds, and 2.0 steals. She was one of five players to be named to the Arizona Republic's All-Arizona Girls' Basketball Team in addition to earning All-Tribune First Team honors following a senior season during which she averaged 22.0 points, 4.8 rebounds, 2.8 steals, and 1.9 blocks per contest.
