#PackXC to Host Three Stripe Invite Saturday
11/4/2016 12:40:00 PM | Cross Country
RALEIGH, N.C. – The NC State men's and women's cross country teams will host the Three Stripe Invite on Saturday at WakeMed Soccer Park in Cary, N.C. The men's race is set to begin at 11:00 a.m. while the women's race is slated for an 11:30 a.m. start. All athletes will run a 5K course.
While the invite will be of a smaller scale, the late-season meet provides athletes another race opportunity, and has historically given insight into future lineups. Last season, Ben Barrett ran the invite as an unattached true freshman, finishing second in 15:21.84. This year, Barrett has established himself as one of the team's top runners--most recently finishing as the Pack's third scorer at ACC's, completing the race in 18th place to garner All-ACC honors. Likewise, Aaron Thomas competed in last year's race, finishing fourth in 15:25.1, and competed in last week's ACC Championships.
This year, seven Wolfpackers will run in uniform, while four freshmen will compete unattached. Earlier this season, redshirt freshman Theresa Enright, redshirt sophomore Gianna Frontera and redshirt junior Lauren Velasco represented NC State in uniform at the VertCross Invitational during the women's 6K race. Enright placed 35th with a time of 22:45.84, Frontera finished 51st in 23:08.51 and Velasco finished 58th, crossing the line in 23:19.40. Sophomore Kyle Christ was the sole men's team runner in uniform for the 8K race. Christ ran the course in 26:20.92, finishing 57th. As an unattached runner, freshman Anna Vess put up a strong performance, finishing 10th in 21:58.68. Four freshmen from the men's side, Tim Bason, Joe Bistriz, Eric Walz and Edwin Rutto, also ran unattached at the meet for the Wolfpack. Bason led the men's team, finishing 4th overall in 25:09.67. Rutto finished close behind in 6th in 25:14.52. Joe Bistritz finished in 13th place in 25:28.84, and Eric Walz rounded out the Pack with a 34th place finish, stopping the clock in 25:59.64. The student-athletes will look to once again post strong performances on Saturday.
