NC State looks for second top-10 win of the season

RALEIGH, N.C. – The NC State volleyball team will look for its second top-10 win this season when the squad travels to No. 6 UNC-Chapel Hill Wednesday evening. First serve is slated for 6 p.m. inside Carmichael Arena and it will be broadcast live on the ACC Network Extra.

The Wolfpack enters the contest with a 17-11 overall record and a 10-6 mark in ACC play, while the Tar Heels are 23-3 and 15-1 in conference action.

Last Time Out
In its last outing, NC State picked up its eighth sweep of the season and fifth in conference play with a 3-0 win against Clemson. The Wolfpack completed the season sweep against the Tigers, as the Pack also earned a 3-0 sweep in the first meeting between the squads this year.

With A Win Wednesday NC State Would Earn…

- Its 18^th win of the season and 11^th in conference play, having surpassed its total from the previous two seasons

Scouting UNC-Chapel Hill
The UNC-Chapel Hill Tar Heels have been enjoying a very strong 2016 campaign, as the squad is currently ranked sixth in the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA). The Tar Heels rallied for a 3-2 victory against the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets in their most recent outing, after trailing 2-0 in the match.

In the first meeting between the teams this season, NC State owned a 2-1 lead against UNC before the Tar Heels came back to defeat the Wolfpack in five sets, 3-2.

Taylor Leath leads the squad offensively with 294 kills or 3.06 kills per set, while Julia Scoles is second with 249 kills. Abigail Curry and Mariah Evans have split time at the setter position, with the former handing out 6.70 assists per set and the latter, 3.92. Defensively, Sheila Doyle owns 4.45 digs per set.

UNC has a team attacking percentage of .267, while limiting its opponents to a .165 clip.

Among the ACC Ranks
NC State is among the top five of the ACC in four team categories. The Wolfpack is fourth with 12.79 assists per set, fourth in digs per set with 15.58, fifth in kills per set (13.39) and fifth in opponent hitting percentage (.188).

Julia Brown is third in the ACC with 4.08 kills per set, while Maggie Speaks is fourth in the league with 10.51 assists per set.

Rachel Eppley, the squad's senior libero, leads the Wolfpack and is ninth in the conference with 4.14 digs per set.

Lucky Number Two
NC State has won the second set in 20 of its 28 matches this season. The Wolfpack has scored 653 points in the frame, the most in any set in 2016, and has allowed 576 points, the largest margin in a set.

The Pack has won the second set in 16 of its 17 wins in 2016.

Tale of the Tape
The Wolfpack has posted an 11-2 record this season when recording more blocks than its opponent. In contrast, NC State has lost eight of 12 matches when being out-blocked and is 1-0 when blocks are equal.

The Higher, The Better
NC State has tallied more kills or had the same amount as its opponent in 16 of its 17 wins this season. The Pack has lost just four matches when recording more kills.

In addition, NCSU's hitting percentage has been higher than opponents in 15 of its 17 victories.
