RALEIGH, N.C. – After concluding a four-match road swing with a record-breaking performance in the state of Florida, the NC State volleyball team returns to Reynolds Coliseum to host Georgia Tech Friday evening. First serve is slated for 7 p.m. and will be broadcast live on the ACC Network Extra.
The Wolfpack enters the contest with a 16-10 overall record and a 9-5 mark in the ACC, while the Yellow Jackets are 20-6 and 11-3 in league play.
Last Time Out
In its last outing, NC State picked up its first-ever win on Miami's home court, as the Pack earned a 3-1 victory against the Hurricanes after dropping the first set. The Wolfpack also collected its first season sweep against the Canes in program history.
With A Win Friday NC State Would Earn…
- Its 688th victory in program history
- 17th win of the season, surpassing its win total from a season ago, and its 10th win in conference, the most since 2013
- Its fourth consecutive win, which would be the longest of the year
Scouting Georgia Tech
The Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets have been enjoying a very strong 2016 campaign, as the squad is 20-6 overall and is currently tied for third in the ACC. Georgia Tech suffered a 3-1 loss against Pitt in its last outing to snap a 10-match winning streak.
NC State and Georgia Tech will be meeting for the second time this season, as the Yellow Jackets earned a 3-0 victory on their home court on Oct. 2.
Teegan Van Gunst leads the team offensively with 402 kills, an average of 4.28 kills per set, which ranks second in the conference. At setter, Rebecca Martin has dished out 8.60 assists per set for a total of 808 on the season. Defensively, GT's libero is London Ackermann who is third in the ACC with 4.64 digs per set.
As a team, Georgia Tech owns a .232 attacking percentage as a team and has limited opponents to a .166 clip.
RPI Leap
Following NC State's historic weekend, the Wolfpack has jumped 19 spots in the NCAA RPI from 91 to 72. Florida State is now the Wolfpack's best win this season, as the Seminoles were listed at No. 23 in the poll at the time of the match.
Georgia Tech is ranked 50th in the sample, so it will be another chance for the Wolfpack to collect a strong RPI win.
Record Breakers
Under the direction of first-year head coach Linda Hampton-Keith and her staff, NC State has set eight program records this season. Senior setter Maggie Speaks set the first NCSU record, breaking the program's rally-scoring era mark with 64 assists in the Wolfpack's five-set win over SMU.
Following that performance, NC State set the program record for highest attacking percentage in an ACC match with a .407 clip at Clemson. Against Syracuse at home, Julia Brown broke the rally-scoring era program mark for most kills in match with 31.
At Virginia Tech, the Wolfpack set the rally-scoring era program record and the program's ACC record for highest attacking percentage with a .468 clip.
Last weekend, NC State earned the program's first top-10 win at Florida State and picked up the program's first-ever win at Miami and first season sweep of the Hurricanes.
Road Warriors
NC State has had success on the road this season in ACC play, as the Wolfpack has won six of its nine road matches. More impressively, four of NC State's conference road wins have been 3-0 sweeps (Syracuse, Clemson, Louisville and Virginia Tech).
Among the ACC Ranks

The Pack has won the second set in 15 of its 16 wins in 2016.
Tale of the Tape
The Wolfpack has posted a 11-2 record this season when recording more blocks than its opponent. In contrast, NC State has lost eight of 10 matches when being out-blocked and is 1-0 when blocks are equal.
