Georgia Tech Volleyball Rallies for Five-Set Win Against NC State

RALEIGH, N.C. – The NC State volleyball team started strong Friday night against Georgia Tech, racing out to a 2-0 lead in the contest but the Yellow Jackets rallied to earn the 3-2 (25-21, 25-23, 18-25, 14-25, 7-15) comeback win inside Reynolds Coliseum.

The Wolfpack falls to 16-11 and 9-6 in ACC play, while the Yellow Jackets improve to 21-6 and 12-3 in conference action.

"A lot of credit goes to Georgia Tech, I think they have some really nice depth that they can use if something's not working for them to make some changes and it really created some stress on us," said head coach Linda Hampton-Keith. "We didn't respond well to those changes at all, so again credit to them.

"They're a great team that's having a really nice season, so we knew it was going to be a tough battle but they some changes that we weren't able to handle."

Match Rewind
- NC State opened the match strong by winning the first two sets, but could not hold off a furious comeback by Georgia Tech.
- In the first set, the Wolfpack scored seven consecutive points to take an 11-4 lead in the frame after trailing 4-3.
- Georgia Tech countered to take an 18-14 lead, but the Wolfpack had an answer. A kill by sophomore Teni Sopitan sparked a 7-1 run as NC State pulled ahead, 21-19.
- NCSU closed out the first set with three unanswered points to win it, 25-21.
- The Yellow Jackets led early in the second set before a 10-1 run by the Wolfpack to take the lead, 16-15.
- Trailing 22-21, NC State claimed four of the next five rallies to win the set, 25-23, to own a 2-0 lead in the match.
- The third set was tightly contested throughout with eight ties and three lead changes.
- Leading 19-18, the Yellow Jackets ended the frame with six successive points to grab momentum heading into the fourth set with the 25-18 win.
- After an early lead by Georgia Tech in the fourth, NC State cut the advantage to two at 14-12 following a kill by Kaitlyn Kearney.
- Unfortunately, GT responded with four straight points to extend the lead en route to the fourth-set win, forcing a decisive fifth set.

- Lauryn Terry capped a 3-0 run for the Wolfpack to trim the deficit to 8-6, but it was all Georgia Tech down the stretch.

- Junior Julia Brown led the Wolfpack offensively with 19 kills to go along with 11 digs to record her 13th double-double performance of the season.
- Sopitan was next on the squad with 14 kills, while Sarah Konchan tallied a career-best 10.
- Senior setter Maggie Speaks dished out 47 assists and charted 12 digs for her 13th double double of the year.
- Defensively, five players reached double-digit digs for NC State headlined by senior libero Rachel Eppley with a match high and season high 28 digs.
- Perry Ramsey and Grace Irvin were the Pack's other two players to record double figure digs, each with 11.
